Day to Day…. or is it Day to Night ???
Been busy the last few days with the day to day consumption. We clean, we work, we eat, vegg, create and dream. All the while we wish that we could do more of each. But if we can have a little fun, and a laugh each day…. that is good for us. Took my Caribou out to a Whole Belly Clam Dinner….her favotite at this time each year…..Happy Valentines. Bought some candy after the day too, it’s cheaper.
Ordered some 40lbs of Basswood for carving, and a new set of palm flexcut carving tools. Still working on the Magic Wands and “Lichen” the little man I am carving. Intend to post his picture when I finish him.
Let the fire go out in the Outdoor Wood Furnace so that I can finish burning up the charcoals and shovel out the ashes. Have not had to clean it out since November. It was forty yesterday- so noworries about the cold.
Back to the Day to Night, keep smiling…. It keeps em guessing.
No snow yet….
No snow in New England on Feb. 9th… This is really unusual.
I do feel really sorry for the ski areas, rental shops, restaurants and all the people that depend on snow for their living. Again we have one group that suffers because of lack of winter, and others who benefit because it has not been too cold.
Then I saw on the news last night that Europe is in the middle of a cold winter storm- the worst in forty years. There was snow in Rome, Greece and even snow across the strait of Gibraltar and in North Africa !!! Wild.
I have not used much wood this winter….but will still buy a tractor-trailer load of logs to cut up this summer so that I stay ahead.
( FYI: I have an outdoor wood furnace to heat the house with a radiant hot water, and have a Woodstove for backup, and to use in the shoulder seasons).
Experts’ vs Mama Reality…
As I drove home the 34 miles this afternoon, I thought about the ‘Suffering Souls’
What is going to happen all the struggling people in America when the so called ‘experts’ ( ‘Best and Brightest, ‘Fresh Thinkers’, ‘the Man’…etc), are proven wrong by Mama Reality?
I saw (and so did you) this depression coming in the 1990s-Tell you how…Went to PA- saw nice old farmland, turned into huge subdivisions of new homes. Same thing in the South, and the Southwest and the West… where was all this new ‘Wealth’ coming from ??? New Homes ? EVERYWHERE ? People buying, New Homes, New (Very Expensive) Cars, Boats, MotorHomes, Toys, Clothes, Shoes, Bling-Bling…Where in the Hell was all this ‘New Wealth’ coming from ???
I had to ‘Compare and Contrast’ my reality with ‘theirs’.
Did I get any of those ‘SuperDupperIncomeExpansionStimilus’ Raises ? (yea- like a 25 cent raise in 9 years with this human service company)
Did my property values increase? (yea-they did, but was it a real, real, real-real estate value increase? Mama Reality told me no). Was there a great increase in ‘living-wages’ jobs ? Not where I live. Did I forget to get an ‘education’ or ‘retraining’ for some new ‘ Hi-technology!- service and sales- manufacturing-entrepreneurial career? No, I have a degree, been there (and there, and there) and done that (successfully) too. SO… Where did all this new ‘Wealth’ come from- I asked, Mama Reality?
Mama Reality says; it’s all an illusion.
Made up from the air between the ears of some shifty Wall St. shysters, politricksters and a lot of media happy talk.
They got Madison Avenue to market it, the ‘Titans of Finance’ to ‘under-right’ it and now, it’s all you see on TV, in the papers and magazines and product-placement in the movies. The illusion that you are ‘richer’ than you really are.
“You deserve it”
You are a loser if you don’t buy into the smoke and mirrors- don’t think about it, just drink the Cool-Aide. ‘Buy, super-size, upgrade, drive, vacation, look like, wear, live here’.
Then, we have the government(s) promoting this- ‘Never ending feel good party’.
Right then, Mama Reality said to me- ‘Don’t you fall for this illusion !’, and thank God, I did not. Facts is Facts… There are not enough ‘Good, Real, Living Wage Jobs’ in the United States, has not been and will not be for a long-long time.
I know about our history, have been told about the first depression and so, I plan ahead.
I live this way and I work and save and live well below our means- I DIY, so I can have without owing anyone. I don’t have a lot of toys or things that “own” me. I live in a modest area, and have a simple life so I can enjoy my free time- life is not easy, winters are long and opportunities are few, but we laugh, love and survive.
We are: Marginal- but happy !
America does not need any more ‘experts’. What we need is more Clear, Honest and ‘Marginal- but Happy’ people running the shows. Mama Reality teaches a hard lesson- but she is ALWAYS TRUE.
This depression will be long and painful, and I feel for those suffering this trial. I hope that everyone would simplify their lives so that they will have more needed things and won’t have to stress so much for what they don’t have or have to work so hard to care for the things that ‘own’ them.
As Warren Buffet said- regarding investment advice-to paraphrase: ‘I don’t take investment advice- those giving it always have their own motives, I do the research myself ‘. I am very sorry about the ‘Suffering Souls’- but as for this life I don’t trust any snow jobs and sales pitch’s. I have met far too many ‘Tricky Dicks’ on this road already- I will ‘do the research myself’, and I always have a plan B and another backup too.
That’s why I live in the country- less drama, I can support myself with less, and I get to explore and create my world….how wonderful is that ?
Tuesday’s plan
Worked on the Magic Wands last night, stained six of them and roughed out four more. They are looking great…I can feel the magic in the wood, it talks to me.
